Die Dressurreiterin Valentina Truppa und ihr Vater Enzo über ihr besonderes Verhältnis zum Dressursport.
„She doesn’t like cows“, antwortet Enzo Truppa recht launig auf die Frage, welchen Pferdetypus Tochter Valentina denn bevorzuge. Er meint damit büffelige Pferde, die man anpacken muss. Die der zarten Dressurreiterin schon allein anatomisch nicht entsprechen. Charakter dürfen sie haben und kernig müssen sie sie sein, „They have to be fresh“. Valentina lacht gerne und viel, sie hat allen Grund dazu.
In Salzburg traffen wir die Dressurreiterin Valentina Truppa zum Italfiocchi Monfort-Talk. Die italienische Championatsreiterin ist populär – und sie setzt auf die besten Partner. Mit ihrer Uniform der italienischen Gendarmerie bringt die zartgliedrige Carabiniera Farbe ins schwarz-weiße Dressurgeschehen. Bald danach wird ihr charaktervoller Wallach Eremo del Castegno den Besitzer wechseln, um in Rio 2016 für Brasilien zu starten. Der Rohdiamant-Weltmeyer-Sohn hatte zuletzt 74,6 Prozent im Grand Prix und fast 80 Prozent in der Kür erreicht.
Enzo Truppa – Vater, Trainer und Manager der knapp Dreißigjährigen und Advokat in Mailand – ist selbst Fünfstern-Dressurrichter und ritt einst selbst bis zur schweren Klasse. Er steuert nun das Familienunternehmen Truppa, kümmert sich um Sponsorenverträge, Terminpläne und Zielvorgaben.
Auf der Familienanlage in Asti werden eigene Pferde trainiert, Berittpferde ausgebildet und Schüler unterrichtet. Valentina weiß was sie kann. Sie betreut rund 15 Pferde täglich. „If you want to sponsor Valentina make your price, but we want to decide when the horse is ready. Otherwise people are always asking. So you want to sponsor, make a very good price and you get publicity back. Otherwise you get crazy with sponsors.“
„Our horses are going to competition when they are fit to compete. So I decide“, klare Ansagen eines erfahrenen Pferdemannes. Damit hält er Valentina den Rücken frei, die sagt: „I like to train my horses from young to Grand Prix. I’ve never bought a horse done. I do all by myself.“ Sie liebe es, die Pferde zu trainieren und aufzubauen, ganz besonders die Jungen, ergänzt sie.
Über talentierten Nachwuchs brauchen Truppas sich nicht zu sorgen. So ritt sie 2015 mit dem erst zehnjährigen Ranieri beim Weltcupturnier in Kaposvar zweimal auf Platz sechs. Ranieri war das letzte Pferd, das Valentina auch alleine angeritten hat – zumal er sich von Anfang an recht manierlich benommen hatte. Grundsätzlich sei aber das Risiko für die Berufsreiterin zu hoch. Für die allerersten Runden im Sattel engagiert sie dann doch lieber einen Bereiter.
Das Turniereiten mache ihr einfach den größten Spaß, erzählt Valentina Truppa, die ab 2004 dreimal das Weltcup-Finale der Jungen Reiter gewonnen hatte. Rund die Hälfte aller Wochenenden im Jahr ist sie unterwegs, steuert den großen Truck über weite Distanzen nach Göteborg, Frankfurt und in die Niederlande. „Lyon lieben wir“, sagt sie, „das ist nicht so weit“. Meilensteine ihrer Karriere waren der erste Weltcup-Sieg eines italienischen Reiters in Frankfurt 2011 und der Start in London 2012, wo sie als Einzelreiterin zu den Olympischen Spielen gefahren war.

‘She doesn’t like cows!’ Enzo answers with a laugh – the question was about the type of horse his daughter, Valentina, prefers. What he means, of course, are that the heavier types are not compatible with the delicately built Valentina. They both like horses with character and energy, ‘they have to be fresh!’ Valentina laughs – she has every reason to be happy.
We are chatting to Valentina in Salzburg for an Italfiocchi Monfort interview. The Italian Champion attracts elite sponsors such as this feed company.
Dressed in the uniform of the Caribinieri, she adds a subtle hint of colour to the generally monotone dressage arena, and riding the fantastic Eremo del Castegno, sired by Rohdiamant-Weltmeyer, they are collecting points from the judges – ranking almost 80% in the Freestyle. Eremo is now sold to Brazil.
Enzo’s positions as father, trainer and manager of the 29 year old are manifold. He is also an experienced Grand Prix rider and five Star Judge in dressage, whilst also working as a tax consultant in Milan and heading the Truppa family team.
Their Equestrian centre in Asti is home to 15 horses. Her father deals with the business allowing Valentina to concentrate on the horses. ‘I like to train my horses from inexperienced youngsters to Grand Prix standard. I have never bought a finished horse – I do it all myself.’
The Truppa family need not worry about talented horses for the future. A horse such as the eleven year old Ranieri, which was placed at the World Cup Competition in Kaposvar, allows them a certain confidence. The well behaved horse was the last to be broken-in by Valentina herself. It is now too risky for her as a competitor.
However, she derives most pleasure from competing. Her success began in 2004 when she won the World Cup Final for Young Rider for the first time. About every two weeks she is on the road, travelling to the next competition – Göteborg, Frankfurt or the Netherlands. ‘We love Lyon’ she says. ‘It is not so far!’ Other highlights of her career have been winning the 2011 World Cup in Frankfurt and competing at the London Olympics in 2012.
